Emilie Derville est une photographe belge ; elle compose des autoportraits et des portraits comme des tableaux et manipule la réalité en les retouchant. Les modèles se transforment en figures archétypales évoluant dans des mises en scène inspirées des tableaux de maîtres et du cinéma fantastique. Ses photographies invitent le spectateur à voyager dans un espace-temps imaginaire où se mêlent mythes et symboles... 

Emilie Derville is a photographer and graphic designer; she composes self-portraits and portraits like paintings and manipulates reality by retouching them. The models are transformed into archetypal figures evolving in staging inspired by paintings by masters and fantastic cinema. His photographs invite the viewer to travel in an imaginary space-time where myths and symbols mingle.

Processus

Pour chaque projet, l'accent est mis sur un thème, une ambiance ou une histoire ; le modèle est costumé, maquillé et un décor spécialement créé vient compléter l'illusion d'une autre époque ou d'un ailleurs imaginaire. Pour terminer, la phase de postproduction permet d'ajouter la touche "magique" au portrait final. 

For each project, the accent is put on a theme, an atmosphere or a story; the model is costumed, a make-up artist is hired and a specially created studio setting completes the illusion of another era or an imaginary elsewhere. Finally, the postproduction phase allows you to add the "magic" touch to the final portrait.

Inspiration

À la croisée du photographe de quartier et du peintres d'antan ; je m'inspire autant de Norbert Ghisoland que du Caravage. Mes principales sources d'inspiration sont la peinture et la musique. La peinture me donne surtout des idées de couleurs et de composition, tandis que la musique m'inspire des histoires et des émotions à transmettre.

At the crossroads of neighborhood photographers and painters of yesteryear; inspired as much by Norbert Ghisoland as Caravaggio. My main sources of inspiration are painting and music. Painting gives me mostly ideas of colors and composition, while the music inspires me stories and emotions to transmit.
